Where the Herring Cove rope swing drops its participants into azure blue water, harmless and benign jellyfish congregate in flotillas of gossamer mesoglea.  Most of these jellyfish lack the potent toxin that would otherwise injure bathers, and the water clarity provides a constellation view of various species and thousands of tiny individuals. Opposite the pelagic habitat of the jellies, sea urchins and abalone cling to the steep rock walls that line the passage separating the rope swing landing from a neighboring island.
